Taft was a decent president. I find it to be particularly remarkable that during his lifetime he was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and President of the United States.
I find it pretty nasty that history books (Brinkley’s American History: A Survey is the one I’m operating out of) mention that he got stuck in his bathtub at some point during the president. I find it pretty nasty that people remember him for that, instead of being the president that passed the 16th Amendment, or the president that became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Taft was fat. And he did some pretty interesting stuff. He did a lot of stuff way more relevant to history than getting stuck in a bathtub once.
A college professor from St. Louis, Missouri has released research claiming that the U.S. Army conducted secret Cold War tests by spraying toxic radioactive chemicals on cities like St. Louis and Corpus Christi.
St. Louis Community College-Meramec sociology professor Lisa Martino-Taylor told The Associated Press that her research showed that the Army may have sprayed radioactive particles with zinc cadmium sulfide while claiming that it was testing a smoke screen that could prevent Russians from observing St. Louis from the air.
Those tests were concentrated in predominately-black areas of the city, which Army documents called “a densely populated slum district.”
In 1994, the Army confirmed to Congress that St. Louis was chosen because it resembled Russian cities that the U.S. might have to attack with biological weapons.
“The study was secretive for reason,” Martino-Taylor explained to KDSK last month. “They didn’t have volunteers stepping up and saying yeah, I’ll breathe zinc cadmium sulfide with radioactive particles.”
Documents showed that the Army used airplanes to drop the chemicals in Corpus Christi, but sprayers were mounted on station wagons and buildings in St. Louis.
“It was pretty shocking. The level of duplicity and secrecy. Clearly they went to great lengths to deceive people,” Martino-Taylor observed. “This was a violation of all medical ethics, all international codes, and the military’s own policy at that time.”
“There is a lot of evidence that shows people in St. Louis and the city, in particular minority communities, were subjected to military testing that was connected to a larger radiological weapons testing project.”
Doris Spates lived in one of those impoverished St. Louis neighborhoods as a child and has survived cervical cancer. But four of her siblings and her father weren’t as lucky. All five have died of cancer.
“I’m wondering if it got into our system,” Spates told the AP. “When I heard about the testing, I thought, ‘Oh my God. If they did that, there’s no telling what else they’re hiding.’”
Last month, both Missouri Sens. Claire McCaskill (D) and Roy Blunt (R) demanded that Army Secretary John McHugh come clean about the testing. For its part, the Army refused to comment on the matter until it had responded to the senators, the AP reported.
fuck this fucking government. Fuuuuccckkk it.
From a Black Man to Mitt Romney: Fuck you.
Black people don’t want free shit, you out of touch Reed Richards hair having motherfucker. We want the same shit that your white constituencyy wants: Opportunity, good school, a place to shit with a door on it and the ability to not be denied converage when we have a medical problem. We’re no different than anybody else but youwouldn’t know that because the only black person you probably know personally you just happen to be running against him for president.
I’m tired of these piece of shit Republicans talking DOWN and whitesplaining to people of color AS IF they had it hard all their lives. NO Mitt Romney, you never had to worry about the price of milk ever in your fucking life. You were raised with a silver spoon in your mouth and your father probably owned a silver spoon factory.
If you were really in touch, you’d talk about JOBS because we have a 14% unemployment rate in the black community but your part couldn’t pass a fart through cotton much less a fucking jobs bill. You’d talk about the safety net but we all know that you and Rand Paul are looking to take a pair of comically large shears to that motherfucker.
Instead you walk in front of the NAACP and talk PAST them and your message hits your goddamn racist, sexist, homophobic, bible thumping, hate ridden, against their own interest base that ignores when we spend half a million on cruise missiles but complain when they see somebody cashing an unemployment check that happens to own an iPhone. FUCK YOU.
I have a goddamn question for you Willard:
What about your perpetually poor white voters in states like West Virginia, Mississippi, Missouri, and Louisiana who vote for you even though you give no fucking care about them. As long as you hammer on how black Obama is, how the liberals want to shoot their white women with abortion guns and the fact that gays want to marry your children they’ll continue voting for you. They staff your fucked up infantry and you’ve spent the past 60 years brainwashing them into thinking they deserve to get welfare checks but the second black people get them, it’s a problem.
Fuck you and your face. Fuck your hair. Fuck your party. Fuck Newt Gingrich and fuck the whole conservative movement that has allowed their side to turn into this giant self-eating mutilated blob.
Partake in the finest selection of horse penises.

It was based in Nicaragua where the government has made a pact with the Catholic Church and banned all abortions no matter of circumstances.
There were women in hospitals that faced extremely high chances of death if they carried on with their pregnancy and the further into the pregnancy they got, the more likely it became that they die.
Rape victims and victims of incest were not granted abortions.
Neither were women living in poverty, on the streets with large families and no way of feeding another child.
Doctors can face having their license taken off them and 8 years in prison for performing an abortion.
Women are forced to seek doctors illegally, often resulting in shoddy back alleys or people that do not have the qualifications or the know how on how to safely terminate a pregnancy.
Some women perform abortions on themselves as they cannot afford to pay for an illegal abortion.
Where as before the law was passed rape victims would be granted an abortion, they no longer have that privilege.
There was one woman in hospital that had a serious heart condition and required strong medication for it. She is pregnant and if she continues to take the medication she increases her chances of giving birth to a deformed child or even having a serious miscarriage.
However, if she stops taking the medication she could die.
What kind of a government condones the death of a woman based on a mass of tissue in her womb? =(
I respect peoples beliefs and religious values but this is cruel and unjust.
What’s the name of the documentary?
What the hell kind of sense does this make? This makes no goddamn sense whatsoever.
Republicans said a payroll tax cut would help create jobs, and now they’re opposed to their own idea. Republicans said the Economic Development Administration is great for the economy, and now they’re opposed to that, too. Republicans have traditionally supported infrastructure investment, but the “infrastructure bank” idea appears likely to be killed by the GOP. Many Republicans endorsed the TANF Emergency Fund last year as an incredibly effective method of lowering unemployment, and the congressional GOP killed that, too.
Republicans are blocking qualified Treasury Department nominees who could also be working on economic policy. Republicans are blocking qualified Federal Reserve nominees who could also help improve the economy, while demanding that the Fed do nothing to promote economic activity. The GOP is demanding that Congress and the White House agree to immediately take money out of the economy and eliminate public-sector jobs, even when conservative economists say that’s crazy. What’s more, these same Republican officials have made it abundantly clear that failure to give them the cuts they want would force them to crash the economy on purpose.
And it’s against this backdrop that one of the most powerful Republican officials on Capitol Hill has argued, more than once, that his “top priority” isn’t job creation, but rather, “denying President Obama a second term in office.”
I feel like my mother’s a honorary member of the Thought Police.
Apparently, Rick Perry is having difficulty with running for president and running Texas. I’m guessing it’s poor form to miss a press conference about the wildfires in a town where nearly 1,400 homes have been destroyed by said wildfires.
Of course, he might face embarrassing questions about his slashing 75 percent of the volunteer fire department budget. In Texas, 80 percent of firefighting in wildlands is done by volunteer firefighters.
Perhaps he might also face questions about these cuts coming after Perry began asking for federal funds to combat fires in April. Whether it was a scheduling issue or him just dodging and weaving, as my friend Bob is fond of saying, that’s rather “unsportsmanlike” behavior.
Governing fail. People are actually trusting this guy to run the country and he can’t even do it without a “Governing For Dummies” manual and a nappy change from the feds every now and then while vilifying them for the services he procures. Look at your life Perry, look at your choices.
will always reblog
I think this is the most important aspect of the law for me. The law ought to have the best of the people in mind, not the best interests of bank accounts and shit.
